Our Top 10 Reasons for Moving to Las Vegas

Our Top 10 reasons for Moving to Las Vegas

10. Great home prices (prices are now on the rise but still a good time to invest)

 9.  Low property taxes (about a quarter to a third of those paid in Vermont)

 8.  No mosquitoes (love going outside after dark without being eaten alive and bonus IT'S STILL WARM!)

I don't know these people but the photo was taken at 9:30 pm!
 7.  No personal income tax, no tax on retirement money

 6.  Fresh fruits and veggies all year round – good prices

 5.  3000 restaurants to choose from and many of them a short walk or drive away

 4.  Ever-changing entertainment opportunities / The Strip / outlying casinos / sports

Always something interesting to see!
 3.  Suburbia – close to shopping/entertainment/natural environments like Red Rock Canyon (6 miles from our new home)

 2.  No snow – (only visible on Mt Charleston some of the year –  Dec and Jan average high                     temp 58, average low temp 34)

Snowless Mt. Charleston

 1. Sunny days –  Las Vegas – 210 days of full sun, Vermont – 58 days of full sun.  Las Vegas – 292 total days with sun, Vermont – 159 total days with sun

Bonus: My sister lives here!

To be fair there are a couple of things I don't love about Las Vegas.

The traffic is pretty bad on the interstates and the main boulevards are quite busy. We aren't usually in a hurry so we seek alternate routes! Love Google Maps on my Iphone.

Every corner it seems has a homeless person relentlessly begging.  Some are bold and come out to walk the street between the rows of cars at the light. I'm scared for them.  Many pedestrians are killed here each year.

It is Labor Day weekend and Las Vegas is expecting 310,000 visitors! Needless to say we are avoiding the Strip.  We have free tickets to see the Blue Man Group show on Monday evening. But that's a long story for another time.

On the house buying front we are still waiting.  The documents from England have been sent. We have a tracking number!  Hopefully we will now close on Tuesday.  The moving van is scheduled for Thursday.  I'll keep you posted.

The kitties are doing fine. We bought them a present at the As Seen on TV STORE!

It's all about the journey.

Nancy and Dan
