More Sights

Still lots happening in Vegas.  Temps are on the decline. Only in the 80s this week. Haha.

We attended the PGA Shriners Open Tournament at TPC Summerlin.  Our first visit to a pro course. There were beautiful homes throughout the course. I learned a lot about golf and spectator rules. DON'T MOVE! DON'T TALK!

Golf course homes.

The home of a casino owner. Note the pool with slide in upper left!

Hope the cameraman wasn't afraid of heights!

By the way I wasn't supposed to take any pictures of the golfers but a snuck a few of the course!

102.7 The Coyote  - Fan Jam 11
Dan sent a text message joke to the radio station and was given 2 tickets to Fan Jam 11 at Sunset Station east of Las Vegas.  Fun show.

Eclipse - I got up pretty early to get these shots.

Free Climbers in Red Rock Canyon
We watched these guys for a little while.  They were free climbing (only using their hands and feet, no real safety gear except a guy up top was holding a rope attached to the climber.)

This guy was on his own.

Group selfie!

You can rent these little cars in Summerlin I think and drive them out to the canyon.  Might be fun to try.

Notice the pictograph of a hand.

Side trip!

Marj's first trip to California.

Brothels are not legal in Las Vegas (Clark County) but they are legal near Pahrump.  We drove past two. The Chicken Ranch was the inspiration for the musical Best Little Whore House in Texas.

I was more interested in the price of gas in Pahrump!

Critters!

Free entertainment.

And for dessert ... more Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake!

Self control - what's that?
We had a great visit with my sister Marj and my brother-in-law Bruce.  Next on the schedule is a visit from our daughter, Erin.  We have plans to visit Fremont Street on Halloween! Stay tuned.

Its all about the journey.

From Wine to Wicked

A couple of weekends ago Dan and I drove back to Pahrump and had a stomping good time. Who would have thought ... a winery in the desert. The Pahrump Valley Winery was having Grape Stomp, a two day celebration of all things wine.
Two person teams signed up ahead of time to get in on the fun of stomping the grapes.
Here are a few of the participants.

Just a taste of the action:

They apparently make pretty good Nevada wine and have won some awards.

We thought it was funny/interesting that several groups came by limo to the event. Rich? Or really working the designated driver aspect?! It was very hot and shade was both mobile and elusive so we headed home after sharing a bowl of awesome chili and a plate of nachos.

I had no idea Lincoln made a quad cab! Sweet ride!

Sorry about the quality of this next photo but this is an amazing way to take your child out for a stroll.  Remote controll car/stroller! Love it. "Ok honey ... I'll take Jr out for a walk."

This past week we decided to replace the carpet in our house with laminate. (Can't do hardwood here because it is too dry.) In preparation I painted 3 bedrooms and a walk-in-closet. Ceilings too. Still chasing away residual smoke smell. No time to blog until today. The flooring team of Ukranian guys did all four rooms in four hours. They were amazing.

We now have a bit of color to relieve the all off-whiteness!

Following a long day of painting Dan realized the only way we'd have dinner was if he took me somewhere. ; )
Guess what? Just a 5 minute drive away is the Cheesecake Factory. (Big Bang Theory watchers ... We didn't see Penny or the gang.)

Huge menu. Great food.

Chicken Tacos

Kaluah Cheesecake!
It was a beautiful evening. We strolled around the area known as Boca Park after dinner.  Very pretty.

There is a group in town for women newcomers to Las Vegas. I was invited by a neighbor to go with her on a hike on Tuesday at the Clark County Wetlands Park. A nice nature center and walking trails. Free of course.

Reclaimed water from Las Vegas goes through here on its way to Lake Mead.

You are not supposed to feed the wildlife but this American Coot seemed to expect a handout. There were large carp in the water as well. No fishing here!

Yesterday we decided on the spur of the moment to try to get cheap tickets to see the musical Wicked. On the website it said a limited number of reduced price seats in the orchestra section would be drawn by lottery. You would end up paying $25 per ticket. Full price orchestra tickets were $161 EACH. We headed down to the Smith Center for Performing Arts for 5 pm sharp. Entered our names and waited for the drawing at 5:30. (They only gave away 12 tickets). Yay. My name was called.

Wicked was truly a wonderful show. The woman who played good witch Glinda had played the role on Broadway. She was amazing. Very funny. Any Young and the Restless fans out there? Kim Zimmer who played Reva Shayne had the role of Madame Morrible. She didn't look anything like she did back in the day when they filmed the "fountain" scene.

Nice venue. We were way down front.

Today I am off to the PGA Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Free tickets for us young people just starting our Golden Years. Lol. More about that later. We have free tickets for the whole weekend! Dan and I are going again tomorrow.

Later on this evening we are headed down to a casino in Hendrson to attend a country Fan Fest. Dan got free tickets. We'll let you know more about that as well.

It's all about the journey. So far it's been amazing.
