Knee surgery

Happy 4th of July!  Riley is ready to celebrate.  She is also excited that the USA Women's Soccer Team will play in the World Cup finals on July 5th. Thanks, Jordan, for the picture of our GrandPuppy!

On the road to surgery at 5:30 am.
A balloon ride might have been a more fun way to spend the morning.
As I said at the end of our last post my meniscus had a tear.  I waited for three days for my regular doctor to do a referral ... no call.   So I took matters into my own hands.  Did some research and talked with some of my neighbors.  I decided to call Total Sports Medicine just a couple of miles from my house on Monday morning. Imagine my surprise when I had an appointment that afternoon with Dr. Yu.  (It helped that I had an MRI and x-rays with a diagnosis.)  However I didn't have the actual MRI disk yet.  I called West Valley Imaging and talked to the pretentious file clerk who informed me she need 24 to 48 hours to get the disk ready ... SERIOUSLY.  Max time to burn a file, maybe 5 minutes and then another 5 to package it and walk it the front desk.  Most places actually give you the file before you leave the imaging center!  Once I told her I had scored a same day appointment with the doctor she condescendingly told me I could pick it up in an hour and a half.
I met with Dr. Yu at 12:30.  We discussed the results and decided outpatient surgery to clean up the tear was in order.  Would I be able to be ready for the surgery on Thursday?  Heck yeah.  Dr. Yu has operating privileges in several locations. That's why things happen so quickly here.  Not like in Vermont where many doctors line up for the few ORs that are available.  I was scheduled in the Sunset Ridge Surgery Center.  I don't know if there were one or two OR's in the center but it was tiny and I received great care.  I got there at 6 am and was home at 9:30. All went well.  Let the recovery begin.
Post-op (I totally don't remember this!)
Constant companions.
Breakfast in bed.  Dan took good care of me.
I had lots of down time on my hands this week so I finished a couple of projects. I attached the tatted edging to a pillowcase.  I think it looks nice.  I am about a quarter of the way through the edging for a second pillowcase.

I also tried my hand at crocheting edging on a hanky (what an old fashioned word).  My Gram taught my how to crochet when I was about 12.  I have crocheted with yarn since then but this was my first try at edging.  Pretty fun and quicker than tatting.

Crochet edging on a hanky.
I also spent quite a bit of time watching "The Great Dannemora Prison Break".  Pretty much like watching a made-for-tv-movie! Glad they were caught and no one else was hurt. Nice work to all of the law enforcement agencies involved.

A word about the weather.  It's hot. It's been over 100 everyday for 2 weeks.  It doesn't get much below the low 90's at night.  It has actually been hotter that normal with temps approaching 110.  But I am not complaining.  I spend time doing things I would be doing inside during six months of below freezing winter temperatures.  Reading, tatting, crocheting, binge-watching a series, or doing a puzzle.  Before my surgery I was going to the pool every morning for an hour.  Can't wait until I get my stitches out so I can head out for my morning soak.  Dan swims every afternoon (which is usually too much sun for me but I just bought a full body swimsuit so I won't get fried by the sun) I'll be joining him soon. I also go out for a bike ride or a walk around the neighborhood every evening after the sun goes down.

It is monsoon season here.  Occasional rain and thunderstorms.  Took a shot of this rainbow from the backyard.

Bummer that we didn't get to watch a taping of American Ninja Warrior.  Friday night was too close to my Thursday morning surgery.  Next year!

Getting ready for the Fourth of July.  The only parade in Las Vegas is near our home.  We received a letter form Red Rock Casino informing the neighbor of their plan to set off fireworks.  Nice to know. Speaking of fireworks they are legal here from June 28 to midnight on July 4.  Only APPROVED fireworks are legal.  Nothing that launches into the air is approved.  TOO DRY for that.  I'm guessing it's all about the BOOM. And get this the only places they are on sale are at temporary booths set up throughout the city.  These booths are open 24 hours a day for 7 days and are run by non-profits only. Not sure how we will celebrate yet but it is also our 33rd anniversary this weekend so I am sure we will find something fun to do.

A few shots from the day I married my best friend.

You may kiss the bride.
and a hug too.
What do farm girls say?
My favorite.
Happy Fourth of July everyone.  Stay safe.

It's all about the journey!

Love Nancy and Dan
